One of the most flamboyant characters in the history of technology is the electrical inventor, Nikola Tesla (1856-1943). The inventor of the alternating current (AC) motor and an early pioneer in radio, Tesla was a highly talented rival of Edison who became a celebrity in the 1890s. During his heyday, the newspapers presented Tesla as a wizard who tamed electricity by means of mystical and intuitive powers. Tesla loved the publicity and deliberately cultivated his image as an eccentric genius. 1
