In situations where there are risks of damage to equipment or to personnel operating equipment, simulators play an important role in training operators. Once the operators develop a certain level of confidence over the simulator they can be further trained on the actual equipment. The paper describes the development of a custom build simulator for synchronising alternators, used to train operators at Yallourn TAFE College in Victoria, Australia.
