Approximately 12,000 adult residents (17%) in Moore County are uninsured. Helping to serve this population, Moore Free and Charitable Clinic (MFCC) is a private, nonprofit organization that provides primary care services to patients at or below 200% of the federal poverty level. Currently, the clinic has nearly 1,200 patients enrolled at its Southern Pines location. The clinic offers wellness visits, immunizations, minor surgical procedures, dental services, and on-site pharmacy services through an extensive network of health service partners. Last year the value of these services amounted to approximately $11 million. Tony Price is the current chief executive officer (CEO) of MFCC. Price studied political science and urban planning at Virginia Tech and marketing at George Mason University. Prior to his role as CEO of MFCC, Price had an extensive career with Verizon in Washington, DC, where he was the vice president of sales for the business solutions group. Earlier in his career, Price held various executive positions at Bell Atlantic. Since becoming CEO of MFCC 5 years ago, Price has worked to successfully integrate business fundamentals into the clinic's operation, while continuing to adhere to the core mission of the clinic, which is to provide compassion and respect to uninsured individuals in Moore County. His effectiveness is evident by the clinic's $20 return on investment for every $1 donated, which allows 90% of services to be provided free of charge to patients.
