The main aim of this study is to examine the item scores obtained from ‘Commitment Scale to the Union’ with the Graded Response Model (GRM), which is a model of Item Response Theory. Within the data collection process ‘Commitment Scale to the Union’ was used, which is developed by Gordon and colleagues (1980) and adapted to Turkish by Bilgin (2003). The research group of the study consist of 353 teachers working in different provinces of Turkey at primary and secondary schools in Kütahya (159), İstanbul (74), Eskişehir (62), Bursa (35), İzmir (12) and Balıkesir (11) in 2009 and they were selected by simple random sampling. There are 15 items in the scale related to commitment of union and these items were requested to answered with responses such as strongly agree (5) and strongly disagree (1), ordinal scores ranging from 1 to 5 as categories. The items of attitude were calibrated with GRM, which is appropriate to Likert type data.
