V.F. Odoyevsky sensitively sensed the binary oppositions of the material and transcendent worlds, continued in his work the philosophical comprehension of the themes of Memento mori and Vanitas. This article presents an analysis of thanatological discourse in the first Russian philosophical novel "Russian Nights", which includes fantastic stories, thoughts on eternal themes, and stories based on real events from Russian life.
