The article describes a specific approach of using photography in psychotherapy which is called phototherapy by its author J. Weiser and is not widespread in Russian Federation at the time. That concept is distinguished from art therapy and therapeutic photography. Functions of photography are specified in the context of its value for psychotherapy and as a part of phototherapy process. We consider examples of using phototherapy around the world and present our conclusions about the audience and psychological problems where this approach shows its effectiveness.
