The excerpt from chapter 6 of the book telling about Emma, gives an expressive picture of various problems typical for “classical” autism, including neuromotor ones, which largely determine the behavioral features of children with autism. The results of Emma’s intensive facilitatedcommunication lessons at the DEAL center are described in detail. This story is a vivid example of the possible intellectual potential of people with autism, which can be discovered if we abandon the stereotypical view and prejudice.Translated from English by E.G.
