The relationships between Dionysus and Satyrs and Nymphs started on Mount Nysa. As a son of a mortal mother, Dionysus gains immortality through his victories, and Satyrs and Nymphs accompany him during his childhood on Mount Nysa. They are characterized with him, which in turn they become pioneers of Dionysus’s world. Frequently seen in mythological narration, the Satyrs and Nymphs are in fact illustrated in quite earlier narratives. First depicted on early period ceramics, the Satyrs and Nymphs are then seen on coins and sculpted pieces. They are depicted on thematic scenes without Dionysus on early period ceramics.
