There is a consensus that organizations are the object of study and intervention of organizational psychologists. However, there is still no clarity as to what “competencies” should be developed by such professionals for the exercise of their profession. In view of this, our study aimed to investigate: (a) the competencies required for the psychologist trainee to perform in the area of staff management and (b) the competence gap between the expectation of the labor market and the curricular guidelines of the psychology course. For that, competence mapping and evaluation procedure was carried out focusing such trainees. The results suggest that the training curriculum was flawed, since competencies considered critical for the formation of the organizational psychologist presented a high gap and an urgent need for training. It is important to highlight that the competency mapping methodology was adequate for the purposes of the research presented here. Mapeo de incoherencias entre las competencias establecidas en la formación del psicólogo organizacional y las requeridas por el mercado laboral Resumen Hay consenso en que el objeto de estudio y intervención de los psicólogos organizacionales son organizaciones. Todavía no hay claridad sobre las “competencias” a desarrollar en estos profesionales para ejercer su profesión. Así, este estudio tuvo como objetivo investigar: (a) las competencias requeridas para el pasante de psicología para trabajar en gestión de personas y (b) las brechas de competencias existentes entre las expectativas del mercado de trabajo y las directrices curriculares del curso de psicología. Así, se llevaron a cabo el mapeo y evaluación de las competencias de los futuros profesionales. Los resultados sugieren un fracaso en la formación de estos alumnos, como las habilidades consideradas fundamentales para la formación de psicólogo organizacional mostraron una alta brecha y la urgente necesidad de creación de capacidad.
