In this review we explain: 1) the molecular mechanism by which de nervous system establishes communication between all their cells (neurons and glia), 2) the way by which this system organizes its confi guration (plasticity); in order to send signals, which form part of our behaviour, memory, thoughts, movements and all the functions that allow us to communicated with our environment and 3) the altered neurotransmission involved in brain diseases or disabilities.
