Canarian identity is founded on trauma. For this reason, those who have thought about the Islands have used fantasy to represent aspects such as its location and history, as well as race, gender, class and the knowledge attributed to its population. Through an anthology of discourses on Islands identity, this article tries to demonstrate the existence of links between Canarianism and coloniality. From the perspective of decolonial thought, this text also affects the work of those who have masked this trauma by resorting to an identity that has not only mystified certain forms of inequality, but can also drive the demand for higher levels of cognitive and social justice.
