The patterns of life (POL) present a unique challenge for computational modeling because systems must produce both meaningful regularities throughout a large population and also believable behaviors at the level of each individual. We describe how computational POL modeling integrates diverse artificial intelligence research areas and provides interesting challenges in multiple fields.
