Reading Predictive Skills Test: Skills Standards for Children The research objective was to construct normative data of the phonological awareness and visual memory skills for the Predictive Assessment of Reading (PAR) for children between 4 and 8 years of age. The instrument assesses skill level in phonological awareness and visual memory, is easy to apply, self-applied, adaptive and computerized. A total of 404 children attending primary or secondary school participated in the research. ANOVA and post-hoc analyses were conducted based on schooling and age, which showed significant differences. The results revealed that older children and those in higher grade levels are better skilled in PAR than younger children and those in earlier grades. Percentile value scales were used as normative abilities measure evaluated by school year and age. The instrument can be used in a research context to analyze children’s performance in tasks of essential elements for successful reading.
