The goal of this paper is to analyze and highlight the benefits of the inclusion of ‘the verb,’ as a grammatical category, into the ‘language classroom.’ This is done in order to bring the issue into analytical debate. Inquisitions arise as the result of tracing and analyzing previous research that focuses on the role of grammar in both official curriculum proposals and concrete proposals for ‘the language classroom.’ We begin with the idea that even if the verb -as a grammatical category- appears in teaching proposals, it is sometimes sublimated by other necessities such as text correction. This paper argues that in order to achieve effective text comprehension and to create and promote critical reading techniques, reflection on sentence level grammar plays an essential role.
