There are various paradigms on the study of water, affecting it from diffe- rent points of view. Water management is approached from the physical and geologi- cal sciences, and relies on technologies such as hydraulic engineering. A socio-historical perspective emphasizes the importance of considering water not as a resource, but as an essential part of a worldview. For exam- ple, studies of disasters have emphasized hydroclimatic data, social responses or so- cial vulnerability. Ecocriticism has emphasi- zed the role of the folk tales and fictional characters to convey holistic understan- dings. Folktales emphasize the importan- ce of these sites of memory and reinforce identities through these ecofictions and rituals. Thus, knowledge of this culture of water not only contributes to basic skills education, and in particular, to literary edu- cation and heritage, but also contributes to the governance of water and the sustaina- ble and responsible management of water resources.
