The article presents the reconstruction of living conditions of Tomsk physicists’ scientific community in the period of social and economic upheaval (1930 1945). The reconstruction is based on published and unpublished sources. The author analyses the formation and development stages of the named community, give the characteristics of Tomsk physicists’ living conditions. The author draws the conclusion that the severe conditions which Tomsk physicists’ scientific community lived in did not cause deceleration in development of the scientific community and the studies conducted. The scientists made strenuous efforts to carry out their tremendous research which resulted in crucial practical and fundamental outcome. The article is intended for those who are interested in the Russian history, the history of Great Patriotic War, the history of higher education and science and the Soviet period of Russian history. © 2016 Published by Future Academy www.FutureAcademy.org.uk
