Some studies have pointed out the existence of some causative verbs which are called factitives whose agent subjects merely trigger an action that is performed by a different agent. In our work we argue that this description of the behaviour of these verbs is inadequate, since it postulates the concurrence of two thematic relations of the same type in a single simple sentence scheme. Alternatively, we propose to describe factitive constructions as causative non-prototypical agent sentences in which there is also a mechanism of metaphorization by which an instrumental source concept is used to refer to an agent target concept. In order to provide a thorough description of these constructions, we propose to draw a distinction in the instrument role between what we call permanent control intermediary instruments and momentary control intermediary instruments .
