Midilli-İstanbul Arasında Zeytinyağı Ticareti----Olive-oil Trade Between İstanbul and Midilli

Ottoman Empire took over and continued the legacy related to olive oil production and consumption which goes back to depth of past. The rich olive culture continued its existence in North Africa, East Medditerrenean and islands which were under the Ottoman sovereignty. The rules conceming to the production, taxation and marketing of olive and olive oil were settled and these rules were disclosed in kanunnames. Allocation of a great share of the olive oils produced in islands and Agean region to İstanbul is seen as precaution for supplying the need of the capital. Among the islands the Midilli was an important center and the trade relations between the İstanbul and Midilli was mainly based on olive oil
