GOOGLE EARTH GÖRÜNTÜLERİNİN VE QGIS AÇIK KAYNAK KODLU CBS YAZILIMININ SOSYAL BİLGİLER EĞİTİMİNDE KULLANILMASI

OZET Bu calismada Ortaokul 6. Sinif Sosyal Bilgiler dersi “Insanlar, Yerler ve Cevreler” ogrenme alani kapsaminda olusturulan “Yeryuzunde Yasam” unitesindeki harita ve olcek konusu ele alinmistir. Konu ile ilgili kazanim “Farkli olceklerde cizilmis haritalardan yararlanarak olcek degistiginde haritanin degisen ozellikleri hakkinda cikarimlarda bulunur” seklindedir. Burada dogrudan verilmesi istenen beceri “Harita okuma ve atlas kullanma” iken dogrudan kazandirilmasi istenen deger de “Dogal cevreye duyarliliktir. Mevcut calisma, ilgili kazanim icin acik kaynak kodlu CBS yazilimlarindan QGIS ve Google Earth goruntulerini kullanarak Sosyal Bilgiler dersi icin ornek bir uygulama gelistirmeyi amaclamistir. Uygulama icin ilk once Google Earth programi bilgisayara indirilmis, daha sonra arama bolumune yasanilan yer yazilmistir. Goruntu ekrana gelince goruntu buyutulerek kaydedilmis, ardindan acik kaynak kodlu CBS yaziliminda projeksiyonlandirilmis, yer konumlandirilmasi yapilarak sayisallastirma islemi baslamistir. Uygulama bolumunde ise yasanilan yerin haritasinin nasil olusturuldugu ve harita unsurlarinin haritaya nasil eklendigi, harita ciktisinin nasil alindigi anlatilmistir. Bu calisma ile ogrencilerin kendileri tarafindan ogretim teknolojilerini ise kosarak bahsi gecen konu ve kazanim ile ilgili olarak aktif ogrenme ilkesi cercevesinde ornek bir uygulama gelistirilmesi hedeflenmistir. Anahtar Kelimeler: Sosyal bilgiler egitimi, cografi bilgi sistemleri (CBS), acik kaynak kodlu CBS yazilimlari, QGIS, Google Earth ABSTRACT In this study, map and scale issues in “Life on Earth” unit of the “People, Places and Environments” learning area covered in the Middle School 6 th Grade Social Studies have been addressed. While skills to be addressed directly on this topic are “map reading and atlas use”; the major value wished to be gained by the students is the “sensitivity to the natural environmental”. The present study aimed at developing an exemplary application for the social studies lessons on map-scale issues by the use of Google Earth images and an open-source GIS software, QGIS. The main objective here is to enable students construct a map of the place in which they live by the help of Google Earth images and open-source GIS software. For the activity, students first download the maps of where they live from the Google Earth application; and then they carry out a number of tasks to create their own maps with all the aspects such as length, direction and so in order to develop their skills on map reading. In this present study, by doing such an exemplary lesson activity, students create maps of where they live; that is, they integrate technology into their learning environment as well as they exercise active learning principles which help them grasp the knowledge, skills and values better.
