La biologie moleculaire est devenue incontournable dans l’etude des processus biologiques impliques dans le traitement des eaux residuaires. Cet article presente les outils couramment utilises aujourd’hui pour caracteriser les populations microbiennes des boues activees, permettant ainsi d'apporter des informations essentielles a la comprehension et a l'optimisation du fonctionnement des stations d’epuration. / The molecular biology tools for microbiological analysis of activated sludge : Molecular biology has become essential in the study of biological processes involved in wastewater treatment. This paper presents the main tools used for the characterization of microbial populations in activated sludge: identification, biodiversity, quantification. The information obtained, together with that from process engineering, allows for a better understanding and optimization of wastewater treatment plants.
