Garth Boomer was asked to be the Conference Moderator for EdTech'88 -the Australian Society for Educational Technology's biennial Conference held in Canberra in September 1988. By design, his role was not clearly defined by the organisers - he was merely required to start the Conference off by providing delegates with some focus for the following three days of sessions, and to come back at the end of the Conference with his interpretation of what had happened. Here is what he said in both opening and closing the Conference.
