The central object of this article is the city of Campo Grande, current capital of the State of Mato Grosso do Sul, and try to recover the way as the city was described in records provided by the newspapers that addressed aspects of urban-city development that took place between the decades of the 60s and 70s. Years of intense rural exodus and sharp countryside-city migration, as well as of major transformations in infrastructure and in the everyday life of this metropolis, at that time the most populous municipality of the then State of Mato Grosso, which sometimes was called Economic Metropolis of Western Brazil.
