Sports in Daily Local Newspapers (Province of Elazığ Example)

Media performs the function of transmitting developments happening to masses. Also, media is the complementary and an inseparable part of sports. Undoubtedly, one of the most effective elements of media is the printed media. The purpose of daily local newspapers is to continue their publishing lives to provide information about the city. Sports pages of these newspapers are also the pages providing daily news on sports and sports activities in that city. In this study, sports pages of five daily local newspapers in the province of Elazığ was examined for a period of one week. Distribution of sports news as text and photographs, distribution by branches were identified in cm 2 . Newspaper area calculations, percentage (%) and statistical evaluations were made in the Microsoft Excel computer software. As a result of the study, it was identified that team sports are presented in higher rates compared to individual sports. Sports news made by males were identified to be presented in higher ratios as text and photographs. The local newspapers of Elazığ was identified to present news on football branch in very high ratios. Team sports such as basketball and volleyball are included in the sports news.
