An Implementation Example of Pre-School Time Sports and Its Branches

Attaining the consciousness of sport at a very early age, the child could obtain sport habit and make it their life style. Family and educational institutions have an important place in making children attain this consciousness. Programs aiming at making children grow healthily, reaching their highest level with their developments and making them ready for primary education take place in the preschool educational with a holistic approach. Therefore, it is of importance that an activity planning should be made by taking the program features into consideration in order that children could attain knowledge, skills and competence in the preschool education. The current study aimed to make preschool teachers attain some gains by using sports and sport branches as a tool and at the same time to increase the awareness and knowledge levels with regard to sport and sport branches. The working group of the study was made up of 43 children in total at the age of 48 – 72 months attending to a kindergarten acting under a primary school in the central town of Çankaya, Ankara in the educational year of 2015 – 2016. In the study where quantitative research method was used, semi – structured interview form was used as a data collection instrument. At the beginning of the study, the children were interviewed face-to-face and their knowledge and awareness with regard to sport and sport branches were determined. Following that, a practical study with a topic of “sport and sport branches” was carried out with the children by taking the gains and indicators in the Preschool Education Program of Ministry of Education. After completing the study, the children were interviewed once again. Depending on the research findings, after the application, it was found that there became an increase in the knowledge levels of the children with regard to sport and sport branches.
