Several studies about representations of immigration in the Italian media have shown that migrants image is negative and based on common-sense, that their visibility in media productions is low, and that the media tend to ignore the structural inequalities and daily racism that they experience. However few things are known about what leads the media to produce such images of immigration. In this context, the paper sheds light on the stage where media contents are elaborated. More precisely, it focuses on the news production process within media which are produced by or with ethnic minorities in Italy and highlights the mechanisms that lead to the elaboration and representation of a group identity.
