In the following pages we examine the basic characteristics of the territorial structure of the Mexican economy; a thematic map accompanying the Zext shows the main features of such structure, since the academic and lecturing discourse related to the general issues of Mexico's Economic Geography lacks a supporting synthetic cartographic vision. There are three parts in this study: first, we present the major theoretical and methodological assumptions on which our research is based. The second part describes the general attributes of the Mexican geographical space. In the third part we distinguish the principal nodes and axes of the Mexican economy. Last, we propose a new economic macro- regionalization of Mexico, which may be useful to understand contemporary regional differences and problems throughout the country.
