The consumption of acid drinks followed by toothbrushing can cause great loss of dental structure. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the abrasivity of 9 different dentifrices on dentine after immersion in orange juice. 70 segments of bovine roots were randomly divided in 10 groups (n=7) according to dentifrices. G1: Sensodyne; G2: Control (distilled water); G3: Sorriso Dentes Brancos; G4: Colgate Acao Total; G5: Close up Microparticulas; G6: Close up Liqui Fresh; G7: Phillips; G8: Colgate Controle do Tartaro; G9: Confident; G10: Tandy. All groups were submitted to 7.000 cicles of toothbrushing, and at each 1.000 cicles the samples were immersed in orange juice for 90 s. The inicial and final data of weight and profile were obtained in an analytical balance and profile projector respectively. The results were submitted to the Kruskal-Wallis test. The greatest loss of weight occurred in group 10 and the smallest in group 4, but there were no statistical differences between the groups. The greatest loss of profile occurred in groups G3, G6, G7, G10 and were statistically significant (p<0,05) with regard to the groups G1, G2, G4, G5, G8, G9. Toothbrushing with Sorriso, Close up Liqui Fresh, Phillips and Tandy associated with acid drink produced greater loss of dental structure.
