The aim of this study was to investigate enamel surface alte- rations of anterior deciduous teeth after different deminera- lization periods (DP) using lactic acid (pH=4,5). Twenty five teeth was divided into 5 groups: I- control; II- DP 12 hours; III- DP 24 hours; IV- DP 48 hours, V- DP 72 hours. Samples were observed through macroscopic and microscopic analy- sis. Roughness and opacity were the most evident macrosco- pic structural alterations found. Large microscopic mineral loss was observed mainly after 48 hours demineralization period. The authors suggested that professionals must to know subclinical alterations and provide effective preventive mea- sures through dental health education.
