This article analyzes, through the correspondence maintained by Gregorio Mayans with different and qualified correspondents, his clearly anti-Jesuitical positions. From an initial trust in the Society of Jesus, the position of Mayans experienced an evolution over time towards open opposition. In this they influenced, among other causes, the contempt to the regalism practiced by Mayans and certain political events as the death of Carvajal and the disappearance of the political scene of Ensenada and Father Ravago.
