The regalist trends in the main Catholic monarchies took the principles of anti-Jesuitism as one of its most important core features in mid-eighteenth century. The offensive against the Society of Jesus carried out by the Portuguese Crown was a precedent that had consequences in the territories of the House of Bourbon. In the end, both monarchies allied themselves in a diplomatic front to obtain the pontifical extinction of the Order in 1773. This was a key moment for the Iberian monarchies due to the political, social and religious implications of this decision. Our aim is to make more visible the role of the Iberian women during this long and complicated process and to illustrate how they participated in both sides of the struggle between the anti-Jesuits and the defenders of the Order during this period.
