In this paper we present the results of the archaeological excavation of Colmenares, a plain rural settlement from the Middle Iberian period, 4th-3rd centuries BC. The study of the archaeological record and ceramic goods show there was an important farming production, though there are still doubts about the specific activity. We also discuss the role of the Iberian rural population and their economical and sociopolitical integration into the territories of the Iberian oppida. This opens new analysis possibilities for the secondary settlement in ancient Iberian Contestania.
