This paper deals with an analysis of the recent changes that have taken place in "landmarket" in two municipalities in the province of Alicante: EL VERGER and ELS POBLETS. The most outstanding features of Chis market are: a high degree of purchase sale for the lame land who are not very optimistic about the prospect in their farming activities. Most sellers are retired people. A great variety of purchases. Scarce amount of water which is salty in some cases. Land that has been turned into building plots of land in near municipalities has reached high prices. All these factors are influencing farming-land owners who are now more ready to sell their lands. Buyers most of the time are prompted to acquire more land in order to mercase their estate or to invest their money on "safe" assets. Finally, new farms over two ha. are being formed whose owners are no-farmers most of the time. The pressure for building new houses, especially in ELS POBLETS, has a clear impact in the organization of the country pattem due to the new uses that are being made of the farming land.
