Using 255-bit Simplex-coded OTDR we demonstrate enhanced performance in Raman-based DTS (30 km with 5 K and 17 m resolution) using low-power (80 mW) laser-diodes. Additional discrete Raman amplification of coded pulses allows more than 40 km measurement range. © 2005 Optical Society of America OCIS codes: 060.2370, 290.5860
