We created an ultra-thin film photocatalytic light absorber (UFPLA) with 2~22-nm-thick TiO 2 films. The UFPLA structure conquered the intrinsic trade-off between optical absorption and charge carrier extraction efficiency and therefore boosted CO 2 reduction efficiency. © 2019 The Author(s)
