The goal of multicultural education was to ensure that all students have access to inclusive teaching and learning experiences. The design of these experiences should allow students to successfully take part in a rapidly changing world where cross-cultural understanding and intercultural communication skills are essential. This paper discusses the characteristics of a multicultural school, its personnel and the possible impact on children in our schools. It discusses the research-based "Eight characteristics of the multicultural school"; the two-step approach to global cultural education, assessing and maintaining effective multicultural schools. Followed by discussion on if "we want to" and if so, how do we increase use of these characteristics in schools?
