This paper describes and discusses the results of a national survey covering the activities of the operations-research department at the corporate level. The major points considered are: 1 the organizational structure of the department and its position in the corporation, 2 the internal structure of the department, 3 budgets and savings, 4 use of services, and 5 a study of the activities in the past, present, and future.
