The undeniable fact of the past few years is the rapid increase in documents published in an electronic form and the development of the Internet. Due to easy access to information, Internet attracts larger and larger groups of users. Documents available in electronic mode are, from the technological point of view, extremely diverse – from a simple web page, through popular PDF files, to various audio and video formats. A detailed description of different types of documents is time consuming and difficult. The current increase in quantity of published content also excludes manual description and processing of such data. These dynamically changing structures are one of the problems that information science deals with. Solutions to these issues often come with other fields of science, for example with information technology. Usually, common software is enough to analyse and process electronic documents, but sometimes specific software needs to be created. In this case, the scripting programming languages seem to be the most useful solution.
