Johann Heinrich Abicht (1762–1816), a professor in Erlangen, the author of more than twenty books and a renowned Kantian scholar later became a professor of logic and metaphysics at the Emperor’s University in Vinius where he held the position for twelve years. The academic, previously very active and showing inclinations to formulate well-known ideas in a new and original manner, remained almost silent during the Vilnius period. What caused such a radical change? What role did Abicht play in the scientific life of Vilnius? The aim of the article is to provide information about new sources which supplement Abicht’s scientific biography (particularly about the least known period of his scientific and didactic work in Vilnius). In the article, I present the results of the research carried out in the archives in Cracow, Vilnius, Kiev, and Tartu. In Vilnius, Abicht developed philosophical psychology and practical philosophy. The materials available today allow a conclusion that Abicht’s scientific activity did not decrease in Vilnius but the extent and the efficiency of its influence changed due to unfavourable factors independent from the philosopher.
