Playing the musical instrument is a physical activity concerning both intelligence and emotions. Forcing a child to play an instrument does not help make them love music. Matching a child with the right instrument is an important factor for their future success in music. In this descriptive study, the factors to be considered in choosing the right instrument for children are explained in the light of the Ben-Tovim/Boyd system developed to support parents in this matter. Researchers carried out a special study on several thousands of parents and children to find out whether or not children can be classified as “musical” and “unmusical”. As a result of the study, the Ben-Tovim/Boyd matching system was developed. In their research, evidence was found that drop-outs had been wrongly advised or encouraged by adults to begin learning instruments that are not suitable for them.
