Depolymn. of paraldehyde in benzene catalyzed by SiO2-​ZrO2, SiO2-​TiO2, Al2O3-​ZrO2, TiO2-​ZrO2, Al2O3-​TiO2 (calcined at various temps.) is studied. The catalytic activity (first order rate const., k) exhibits a max. against the temp. of heat treatment of the catalyst. The acid sites at pKa ≤-​3.0 correlate best with catalytic activity for depolymn. of paraldehyde
