The relation of the electrical potential across isolated frog skin in Ringer to oxygen concentration and oxygen pressure has been experimentally investigated. The dependence of the respiration of isolated frog skin in Ringer on oxygen concentration has also been determined. The potential and respiration depend in the same way on the oxygen concentration. The potential is diminished by inhibitors of respiratory processes. The rôle of oxygen consumption in maintaining the skin potential is discussed.
