First Person is a series of interviews with the first authors of a selection of papers published in Journal of Cell Science, helping early-career researchers promote themselves alongside their papers. Akruti Shah is first author on ‘ IP6K1 upregulates the formation of processing bodies by influencing protein-protein interactions on the mRNA cap’, published in JCS. Akruti is a PhD student in the lab of Dr Rashna Bhandari at the Centre for DNA Fingerprinting and Diagnostics, Hyderabad, Telangana, India, investigating the effect of post-translational modifications and protein–protein interactions on mRNA metabolism in health and disease.
