B9 The implicit measures were quite highly correlated with each other (r values > 0.47), which may suggest that, at an implicit level, there is only a single underlying attitude, rather than specific domains such as safety and efficacy. Implicit and explicit measures were also associated, but at a moderate to low level (r values ranging from 0.16 to 0.40), suggesting a degree of overlap between implicit and explicit measures. Backwards multiple regression models were used to predict future use. Future use of CAM was best predicted by an explicit belief in the efficacy of CAM (B = 0.32, t148 = 3.13, P = 0.002), an overall positive attitude towards CAM (B = 0.33, t148 = 3.30, P = 0.001) and a lack of explicit belief in the efficacy of conventional medicines (B = −0.22, t148 = 3.53, P= 0.001). Future use of conventional medicine was best predicted by overall positive implicit (B = 0.17, t149 = 2.46, P = 0.02) and overall positive explicit (B = 0.48, t149 = 6.83, P < 0.001) attitudes towards conventional medicine. Structural equation models will be presented to further examine these relationships.
