We are beginning to integrate the functions of individual orphan receptors into larger networks. It is particularly exciting that these basic studies are beginning to shed light on important diseases. We are now able to address not just physiological but also pathological functions of these proteins and their potential as targets for treating a surprisingly wide range of diseases.
