Impaired glucose tolerance and diabetes mellitus are frequently present in acromegalic patients in whom the degree of impaired glucose metabolism seems directly correlated with GH levels. Microalbuminuria is reported to be directly correlated with insulin resistance, and both conditions predict cardiovascular disease mortality.
