In coordinating this column, I am increasingly impressed with the innovation shown in so many different areas of applied geophysics. Some papers propose a completely new approach and others solve a particularly thorny problem, which limited the use of a previously proposed method. I am also impressed in reading all of the introduction sections of how authors build on the work of others in their fields. Advances in the field of applied geophysics continue to happen at a rapid pace.
