About seven years into his career, Sam agreed to take a very attractive overseas posting that was offered to him. This was not done impulsively — he and his wife, at the time the parents of two young daughters, discussed at length the pros and cons of such a move, and finally decided that it was right for them to go. So they packed up virtually all of their belongings, among other things wondering how many of the more delicate items would survive the trip, and set off for what turned out to be a wonderful experience. This is not to say that there weren't adjustments to be made or difficult times to be endured, but the passage of time has a way of filtering these out, and memories take root in the positives.
