The words “field camp” evoke warm memories for many geophysicists. Memories of days spent outside the classroom, exploring the earth — the focus of an endless curiosity and admiration that propelled them into the geosciences. Field camp is the time when it all comes together in a climax of understanding for students — the first real opportunity to put into practice the concepts, theories, and methods studied throughout their undergraduate and/or graduate curriculum. Do you remember the feel of the magnetometer on your back as you walked along collecting data? How about that first awkward swing of the sledgehammer? What was it like when you saw signals appear on the screen in front of you, indicating that you were collecting data that would help you better understand the subsurface of the earth on which you were walking?
