My January “From the Other Side” column was full of earthquakes, so to speak, which caused a few tremors upon which I will report in this column. The first is from Don Plouff (USGS): Seismometer arrays out here (in California?) constantly are in network communication with bases. I assume that the hope is that if any record a first arrival to ground shaking, some form of warning message instantaneously will be sent outward. The P/S interval may help, but the first arrival would be essential for response.
