Twelve years ago, I gave a presentation to the AGU on challenges that the oil and gas industry was facing at the time. Those challenges centered principally around rapidly growing technical complexity and increasing risks. In my opinion then, during those times of higher oil prices, the industry's focus was on “more” and not necessarily on “better.” Today, in times when prices have settled at a level less than half of what they were when I delivered that presentation, it is even more important to think about how we can do things better, faster, and at lower cost.
